Credit Repair Procedure Request
If after disputing a reporting error that you know is not accurate, you are still getting notices of verification from one or more of the credit bureaus there is a remedy for your frustration. If you are in our credit repair program we will take care of this for you, but it is handy to know the mechanics of the law.
Don’t Give Up
Once you have sent a dispute letter to a credit bureau they are required by law to process your request within 30 days, and to provide you with the results of this investigation within 5 days of completion. If the item dispute has been deleted your credit repair effort is done. But if the item is verified and you would like to press the issue, you still have some legal credit repair leverage. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) the credit bureaus are required to provide a description of the procedure used to verify the information. And they are required to do so within 15 days of receiving your request.
What to Do
All you need to do is to write a letter requesting a description of the procedure including the name, address and phone number of the party that verified the item. It would be wise to attach a copy of their initial verification response. You might even want to attach a copy of the appropriate section of the FCRA (as excerpted below).
Take the Next Step or Leave it to Us
Once you receive the information you will be able to focus your effort on the appropriate person or department at the creditor. And, as mentioned above, if you are in our credit repair program, you can just leave the details to us. Good luck!
